66. The Search for Happiness.

Such an interesting title.

You know, people these days don’t really look happy, and maybe they’re not happy because they don’t know what things or occasions that will make them happy, that will bring them happiness.

I bought a novel titled Hector and The Search for Happiness, and it is such an interesting novel. It’s about a psychiatrist who didn’t feel satisfied about his life and he wasn’t happy with his life as a successful psychiatrist. So he went on a journey to a few countries, searching for happiness, searching for the reason behind the happiness.

He wrote a list of what he had found along the journey, and let me show it to you guys.

  1. Making comparisons can spoil your happiness.
  2. Happiness often comes when least expected.
  3. Many people only see happiness in their future.
  4. Many people think happiness comes from having more power or more money.
  5. Sometimes happiness is not knowing the whole story.
  6. Happiness is a long walk in beautiful, unfamiliar mountains.
  7. It’s a mistake to think that happiness is the goal.
  8. Happiness is being with the people you love; unhappiness is being separated from the people you love.
  9. Happiness is knowing that your family lacks for nothing.
  10. Happiness is doing a job you love.
  11. Happiness is having a home and a garden of your own.
  12. It’s harder to be happy in a country run by bad people.
  13. Happiness is feeling useful to others.
  14. Happiness is to be loved for exactly who you are (People are kinder to a child who smiles).
  15. Happiness comes when you feel truly alive.
  16. Happiness is knowing how to celebrate.
  17. Happiness is caring about the happiness of those you love.
  18. Happiness is not attaching too much importance to what other people think.
  19. The sun and the sea make everybody happy.
  20. Happiness is a certain way of seeing things.
  21. Rivalry poisons happiness.
  22. Women care more than men about making others happy.
  23. Happiness means making sure that those around you are happy.

Personally, this novel really change my perspective on  understanding the real meaning of happiness. 

For me, happiness is seeing the people I love feel happy when they’re around me. Happiness for me is making those I love happy, even if I’m not. Happiness for me is seeing people around me happy with their life choice and everything they do. 

Happiness is not a goal, as Hector has written in his list. Don’t seek for happiness, just let happiness seeks for you. (Is ‘seeks’ even a word?)

      Happiness…hmmm. Boring answer for you, I’m afraid…the bills are paid, there’s food in the cupboards, the cats are well and my family is safe! Great post!

    4. Happiness for me is being around with my family and the people that I love, seeing my daughter’s adorable smile everyday. It’s being able to do the things that I love to do. Being free to pray and worship God. It also makes me happy when I spend some time with nature, or spending a few minutes appreciating the things that aren’t man-made like the clouds, stars, the sky… and ofcourse whenever someone likes my post or follows my blog, that makes me haopy too! =)

    6. Seeks is a word.
      Do you agree with his assessment of women as caring more about making people happy. ?
      I think women are more caring and nurturing in general
      When u throw them in a single mom situation its hard for them to maintain these qualities cos they are forced to wear 2 parental hats
      Happiness is knowing where you’re going when you die
      Second to that is knowing your friends and families eternal future is safeguarded
      Thirdly is to either get paid to do what you love or to have reached a place of peace where you can see the best in every situation n soul ( -still getting there)

      Y do animals look happy cos they don’t have our responsibilities even though they probably have cares n worries of their own just not the stress of jail or taxes but ants have conscription n bees compulsory breeding programs and being a male preying mantis is a short lived yet pleasurable experience
      Theres a beautiful tragic poetry of the struggle caterpillars go through to become a butterfly only to have one day of glamor n being by necessity restless cos each time they settle they lose a bit of their dusty selves🐛

      1. Aw, that’s is beautiful! Well, happiness can be found in such simple things and that’s what makes me happy everytime I do little things that people think are not important. And, I’m not reall agree with ‘women are more caring than men’, because duh, we’re all equal. Love u, xx.
